So a walk round another city I knew well once., as my folks lived in a village 10 miles to the south for 10 years. I hadn't seen Oxford for 18-ish years so walking round on a slightly drizzly night, what were my touchstones?
1. The site of the long gone music shop where I bought my bombarde. Now a bar.
2. The sites of 2 former cd shops, one where I first got into modern classical.
3. The bus stop that took me to my folks village. If I missed the last bus at 6.20pm I was in trouble... Just had to see that bus stop again :-)
4. The covered market. Closed at night but I saw the entrance.
5. The sign for TURL ST - in my day one letter was always graffiti'd :-)
And the changes I noticed? Not much actually.
1. Like London, MANY more food outlets.
2. Lots more beggars. I was asked for money 7 times in a short walk.
The walk hit a lovely synchronicity with the music playing on my pod - the fab Latin jam of Luis Gasca's album - For Those Who Chant - which I might've heard 18 years ago when my brother got it. :-)
