Gig hiatus over - Jazz Duo - Rutland
Nov. 23rd, 2014 10:02 pmMy first gig in 18 days - it's been a weird quiet time - family visits to Cambridge & Sheffield. Then London to see Perfume, then 4 or 5 days in Oxford hospital visiting G (she's on the mend), living in a Premier Inn, then quiet time at home being nurse and cook. No playing music at all.
Then today...
Funny duo jazz gig for 40th anniversary dinner in small room that could just hold the 4 tables of 32 guests. Plus us. Then there was a 1 man cabaret like a Cornish Ted Bovis. He had to change his act for the elderly audience - he explained, "I usually sing & dress up as Meat Loaf & Dolly Parton and do jokes with dildos & condoms..."
another great moment -
Management - "You can't set up there - that's the fire door!"
Me - "But it's locked..."
Door was unlocked but could not open due to junk piled up on the other side...
Long 2hr first set - a break for a sandwich and then a final 30mins.
It went better than we thought when we arrived and saw the tiny toom. Nice to be earning again too
