Saturday 8th
Govannen chum and sometime caller Cathy Lesurf organised and called a ceilidh in a pavilion in Nottingham which she has done the last few years - she always gets a good turnout and the crowd is always ceilidh dance crazy and dancing flows much of the night with breaks for the odd song or two. Nice lady, nice do.
Sunday 9th
For 20 years there used to be a twice yearly jazz piano party - many pianists swapping over with bass & drums accompanying, plus guest horns & guitarists, originally started by boogie-woogie piano king Bob Kelly, and continued by Graham Toone since Bob's death - held at the old Phoenix Arts Centre - however when the Phoenix closed a few years ago it took the piano party with it. So it was a suprise to find it back AND at the old Phoenix. It was strange - back in time - almost the same but the walls were now all painted grey and the carpeting had been replced by laminate flooring. Good vibe though - only 3 pianists but a host of guitarists - I got away with only playing 2 songs. Nice to see so many old muzo chums.
