So shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of thereminist Barbara Buchholz. She was a real inspiration to me, fusing theremin electronics with jazz and working with the likes of Jan Bang & Arve Hendriksen. I dedicated a piece Deep Space Bossa to her.

I met her a couple of times and had a lesson with her last summer at Hands Off theremin symposium. We hung out a bit there and we got on well as we had music tastes in common. We also found time to improvise a piece together, myself on piano, something I had always wanted to do and have fond memories of  now.

She was a lovely person, informal and friendly, but very dedicated to her art and always strove for excellence in her work.

I can't believe she is gone and I will miss her very much.

What a loss -- and what a shock. She can't have been very old. Wow, 52, if Wikipedia is correct.

Oh my god, what happened? I met her too, you know, and said hi from you...

Apparently she'd had cancer for quite a while and few knew :-(. It added up to me later - she was very thin and very strict about a healthy diet.
