Our Quadelectronic chum Jez Creek organises a series of electronic concerts called The Church Of Sound and asked Jim & I as Memory Wire to do a slot, and the Freeman brothers' Alto Stratus too so we all squeezed into my car with our kit
. It was in the small basement of a cafe in Nottingham called Lee Rosy's. Parking was hard to find so my set up was hectic and but we started on time.
Alto Stratus set
Steve & Alan played a 40min set of quite industrial sounds for bowed CDs, synths, laptop & tape samples.
Memory Wire set
Due to space limits I took small theremin, mic, effects & small keyboard, Jim took his usual kit of laptop, keys & cajon. I struggled a bit with my theremin which wasn't behaving itself scale length-wise - I suspect it needs adjustment - and as we were in front of the speakers I had some feedback moments. I think we realised with unfamiliar PA and hurried set up vibe than we weren't going to be doing the very ambient style we had been playing of late, but reverted to our earlier lively live style of minimal riffs with cajon percussion. Still we got there in the end and played a 40min set. Video highlights by Anthony Bloxham
Quad All Stars
Basically Memory Wire + Alto Stratus + Jez Creek - wow - a 30min loud electronic wall of sound racket :-) - I couldn't think of too many ways to cut through apoart from some theremin screaming and minimal Terry Tiley-esque minimal riffs and I even took off with Jim in to my old jazz rock fusion keyboard organ chops :-).
Met some nice folks and met a FBook friend who bought 3 unusual CDs bless him - Memeory Wire Ascend, Adagios Electric & Through Mirrors We Met :-)
Given we rarely travel with the electronic thing it felt quite epic to travel and play in a new place in Nottingham city centre. Thanks to Gavin Morrow for the photos.
