Dan's aunt Janet has done much hands on charity work in the Balkans and the latest campaign is Bee Amazing - setting up bee hives in poor villages of Albanian gypsies - It was held in the HUGE St Mary's Church in Melton Mowbray (which was once Leicester's cathedral) - It was nice to mix concert with ceilidh and the high ceiling made the sound spreal evenly really nicely. They werent sure they wanted a ceilidh when it was booked but so many got up and danced - many for the first time.
Fun moment explaining to a Chinese lady who liked the kalimba that...
1. yes the music we are playing is Irish.
2. no I'm not Irish - my grandfather was, but I'm American.
3. no the kalimba is not an Irish instrument, it's African...
Another nice moment at charity ceilidh tonight. After the show an elderly lady who danced quite a lot came up to me and shook my hand saying, "I didn't know what I'd signed up for when I came here tonight - but I had a WONDERFUL time! I didn't know I could dance!!!!"
