unclechristo: (theremin - in the zone)

Once I got the day actually started i surprised myself by starting a new recording project that has been outstanding awaiting my new compter - the Pagan Chanting album - quite a lot of detailed notes to sort thru from the lass who's baby it is - and I made a good start - broken the nback of a track - needs real percussion and OKing the structure I chose but - feels good to start somethign - and Ominsphere tho I;ve only scratched the surface is so good!

In the evenign altho I had a Pagan chatning head on it was time to go and do Quadelectronic 8 - we had 16 players!
Couldn'tve been more different than QE7 which was beaty and psychedelic - QE8 was mostly ambient, drone-ish and spacey. Plus we had Richard's great liquid light show (overhead projector, inks, fans, etc - all home made hit - fab!) . Felt like a lot of enjoyment int he room and soem really pretty mellow pieces.

- those who played at QE8 were ...
Chris Conway (theremin, voice, flutes, fx), Steve Freeman (Moog synth, electronics & bowed CD), Alan Freeman (Roland SH32 synth & bowed spring), Shekhar Raj Dhain (Korg synth), Simon Ferraby (acoustic guitar), Jim Tetlow (laptop, fx), David Dhonau (bass, stylophone, radio, electribe), Pete Turnpenny (electric guitar & fx), Adham Fisher (electribe & airsynth), Dylan Menzies (tenor saxophone, fx), Sergejs Jermolajevs - trombone, Ben Harvey- feedback mixer, Carol Leeming - vocals, Victoria Bourne - vocals, flute, Ola Szmidt - vocals, flute, Walt Shaw - contact mic and things, Richard Colenso - liquid light show.

was having a discussion about folklore and legends on a board - some said that the USA had a relative lack of folklore due to it;s short history when one took out the Native Amercian traditions

anyhow - some thoughts on the power of legend....

A long history can make for more legends but little and personal ones are created all the time and seem not to be harmed by hard media exposure - eg when else but in the JFK assasination do you ever use the term "grassy knoll"? I'm sure that our granchildren's grandchildren will hear of the grassy knowll in the telling of the tale. Look on youtube and it;s full of JFK conspiracy theories, autopsy films real or otherwise, all illustrated by film. Even with film legends grow.

Personal legends...
My late mother pointed out a lady one day in a very old photograph from the late 1800s who was her aunt - all Ma remembered of her is that whenever she played the piano, a robin would hop into the room. I thought how strange - a lady lives a whole life and the only remembered thing about her is the photo and a little tale like that. I can't remember the lady's name now so even that is lost - but the legend of the little music loving robin lives on.
