Since new year have been slowly improving lurgy wise and one day I just felt well. Have been assembling to do lists, doing website work and e-newsletter. I even started some recording for the next Govannen album and wrote a new time for it in my head.

Unfortunately my computer blue screened on startup - "the atkdisp driver was in an infinite loop" - very sci-fi. I researched online, renewed video and windows drivers. It restarted ok but not later from cold. It did in safe mode tho - I did some CCleaning & spybotting - it restarted OK. AND the next day it started from cold twice. Either I fixed it or it'll fail again and is on the way out.
Actually I was thinking of a new machine since I was stranded in XP and all the new software wants W7. So its a good time to plan ahead and order a new one. Just hope the old one continued to work so I can.
Very few gigs in Jan and studio is quietish so a good time for a big change.

Yoga program put me up to a level I couldn't do so I changed my goal and am back on easier stuff but progressing quickly thru the levels. Eventually I'll pick a custom program.

Been hooked on the Larry Sanders Show box set and the Charlie Chan Warner Oland box. Listened to some Flower Kings today for first time in ages. Been listening to a lot of modern classical lately - ordered more Takemitsu. I also ordered a bombarde reef - I haven't played it for 10-15 years... Be very afraid...

Last few days has been emptying boxes, finding homes for things, arranging quotes for repairs, and moving the odd thing over from my old house- mostly CDs. About 1000 of those so moving 100 a day. No space for them all yet. Need more shelving.
As to books. Well I'm seriously wondering how many books I need on display ... Don't feel the same nerdy desire to see every book I've read on my walls.
Studio not moved yet but will soon as I'm mid job and can't really wait for the computer desk to come so will camp out on tables and boxes.

Had jazz gig with Andy the sax @ the Cactus Cafe. Nice to play jazz again. Got a bit tired tho. Residue of moving house stuff. Actually have 4 gigs in 3 days so I'd better paint in some chilling time

Got some DVDs from 2ndhand shop. Box sets of 14 Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films, season 1 bewitched and the new Star Trek film. Should keep me going telly wise.

My damaged incomplete desk was to be collected today. between 9 & 11 am.. 11 came and went. 2pm came and went. I rang they said it would be collected today but couldn't say when. 4.39pm they arrived. I was able to do some stuff around the house - unpacking stuff - but I kept jumping when a van went by or something parked. Got another delivery with them tomorrow...

I did do a little recording in the old house on the video score job. And we had Tom & Beth round for dinner.

Got a nice review for Live & Peace & Outer Space in R2 magazine and a lovely comment from someone in Australia who dig my Sanctuary album. A friend downloaded the new Memory Wire album too for an optional fiver. :-)

My chest infection has been improving slowly with anti-biotics. Good and bad days. Still kinda weak tho. Battling with effects of post-bug and the antibiotics. I have been able to do some work in the afternoons - some website work, uploaded 2 more albums to bandcamp, done some more remixing of my 20th anniversary concert. Today I started a mastering job for Jackie Leven.
Mornings & evenings tho I don't have much energy. I have enjoyed Test Match Special on the radio by day and been working thru rewatching Jessie Matthews movies and Voyager DVDs by evening. I've been enjoying reading Jack McDevitts Odyssey as it's easy reading and slow/no plot suits me well.
Luckily I've no gigs for a while. Also luckily studio work has come in - the Jackie Leven job and some spoken word recording for the new age label.
Gonna be a slow fix.

Had tired weekend after the high of Fridays gig.
Saturday went into town and edited & uploaded videos from Fri gig.
Sunday had a 30 min Oxjam songs slot today at The Quarter. Quite a hubbuby crowd so my set had more than the usual hubbub breaker tricks eg kalimba, twin flutes etc, Sang "Who Pays The Price" for 1st time in years which I got into. Saw guitarist Chris Harper & Bluestave play, and chatted, albeit briefly, to chums.

Tired so came home to Chinese Takeaway & Voyager and bought song Dooriyan from Love Aaj Kal on my iPod.

Set - Finally, Lifespell, Bobby Caseys, Alien Salad Abduction, Who Pays The Price?, Make Your Own Kind Of Music, Carousel, Rainbow Real.

The jazz duo gig in Melbourne, Derbyshire took place in a small gourmet restaurant the Bay Tree. Bit of a squeeze setting up. Sell out jazz dinner - 70 folks. A chatting and clapping crowd. Were booked for 2x50 mins but 3 songs to go folks got up and danced so we upped things and carried on a while. It was like a 60s movie like when Susan George & Richard York go to a groovy party
with the organ jazz and dancers. Except the dancers were 50s60s.
I was dead beat when I got home.

Today was saddened hearing of Mary Travers passing and listened to a lot of PP&M and watched my documentary dvd on them Carry On. Took some time off then had paperwork, contracts, public liability & invoices chores. Had a break from music making tho.

Was naughty and ordered Pagans Minds DVD limited edition box from Norway.
Also ordered the Manfred Schoof Quintet reissue 2cd set. I used to love their 3 vinyl albums on ECM but annoyingly instead of releasing all 3 albums in full they picked a best-of on 2cds. Better than nothing I guess but woulda thought all 3 woulda fitted on 2 discs without losing tracks.

Sunday...
took thinks easy. G wanted to see Julie & Julia - haven't been to the movies together in years. Nice film. Thought the Julia Child story coulda been the whole film really and dump the blogger story. Guy that played Child's husband stood out for me acting-wise. Only 8 of us in the cinema...

Monday ...
was a bit sabotaged by a bad night sleep. However did some posting and banking etc
Worked on Raising Kayn episode 4 soundtrack.

In evening played jazz duo gig with Andy Nicholls at Dos Hermanos. Quiet. Noticed since school term started lots of places are emptier. Psychological "summer is over" feeling methinks.

Yesterday morning concert was Hebrides Ensemble playing Schoenberg, Berg, Mahler, Debussy, &Strauss II. Not totally my kind of music but great playing and some pretty moments.
Lunched in Turkish Cafe & had Turkish coffee & baklava.

On way home found venue for accapella harmony group The Magnets. I'd seen them 9 years ago opening for Lisa Stansfield. We booked on spec. Awesome show. Harmonies, vocal beatbox extraordinaire and fun schtick. Best harmony group anywhere.
Had dinner in Pleasance Dome with Peter & his nephew & girlfriend.

Loafed around and shopped yesterday. Found a 2ndhand Boss momentary switch pedal so I can tap tempo my Moogerfooger Murf. Bought a cd off a couple of buskers playing Hang drums very nicely and found a reduced Stefan Micus cd - haven't kept up with his recent albums. Found a very good book on writing copy which will be handy for blurb & webstuff.

Frank Skinner was very funny. His guests less so apart from a singing cabaret duo who were damn good. Skinner was just a master onstage.

Had moment of fame at the Clive James. Lass in seat behind me said "I know you -you're Chris Conway". she was from Leicester and was pal of Malc the Soundman. :-)

Lots of uk celebs walking around. I almost walked into Lionel Blair. Others mostly B list tv celebs like the squirt who presents Buzzcocks quiz show , Frankie Gavin from Mock the Week, Alistair McGowan and those who make you say "oh wotshis/her name?"

At Edinburgh Fringe. Flat very smart tho oddly next to 2 strip clubs - best not get wrong door on way home. Last might went to fab thai fusion meal at place called Levens. Met up with old chums Peter and Susanna in a pub. I even drank some alcohol- not a great idea as I soon felt terrible. Pete gave us free tickets for Just A Minute.

Today went to see Clive James interviewing Ian Banks. Clive was cool as usual - Banks was kindof too bright to communicate effectively. Then Just A Minute. Fun to see a radio institution. Only panelists I knew were Paul Merton and Sue Perkins. Sue was on fire and walked it.
Then straight on to see 4 Poofs & a Piano. A fun and slick show of gay humour and harmonies. After quick nap had meal in genuine old fashioned Italian restaurant.

Sundays wedding gig with Govannen went smoothly at Barnsdale Lodge. Happily for me we got to play indoors despite sunny weather.

Today I listened to The Rain Garden's 3 live albums we made in 92, 93, 95. Weird to hear digitally recorded music from 17 years ago. Just like yesterday. My plan is to pool the best tracks from these 3 albums to remaster & re-release on Cd. Set up meeting with Carl the Sitar to help choose.

Finished Bollywood film Kismet Konnection filmed in Toronto. Film only Ok. Songs not great with 2 rap disco songs which didn't really fit with a romance about an architect. I like Shahid Kapur tho and Vidya Balan is groovy. Nice to recognize Toronto places.

Neil the Bass had his first dialysis today. Had chat with him.

Judith liked the electronic collage I made from her Hebrew songs. Will tweak to wrap this up.

Gig came in for this Thurs with Andy the Sax which is handy for a quiet gig week
