unclechristo | Lurgy - no filk con - gig - scary drive - lurgy

The morning of the UK filk con and all packed to go I wake with another lurgy - or is it the last one again? Sore throat and wheezy lungs. Tough - I knew if I went to the Con as planned a) i would spread lurgy and b) I would not be able to do the Govannen gig which I knew I had to do on the Saturday. I hadn't been happy gigging in the middle of the con but the band had only gigged once in a month so needed the work. I had planned to go to the con and on Sat night do the gig and return to the con. I realised I had to save voice for the gig. Thought I would go to the Con on the Sunday as a day visit.

The gig itself went fine, voice lasted as I didn't have to sing much it being a ceilidh - but really scary drive home thru the snow. Almost didn't make it. One hill almost defeated me - has to inch it up. Just made it after many tries, car getting hotter all the time. Coulda turned round but where would I go? No other route home. Then later nearer home I had quite a skid just missing parked car. Dodgy road didnlt let up even heading into the city. Sooo relieved to get home... Took me quite a while to calm down before bed.

Next morning - lurgy back with avengance. I knew I wasn't up to the drive and the talking to go to the con. So sad to miss Dr Mary Crowell over from the states who I haven;t seen in years. Sad too to miss Pola Bear and her band singing my Zonky Ponky song. And miss seeing all my chums I only see once a year... Felt rotten and fed up - first UK con I've missed in 3 years.

Nothing for it but to rest up and finally get these lungs well...

Plus - the boiler is playing up and not lighting - got it going 10th time of asking this morning...
