Songs Album Recording
Feb. 21st, 2018 01:14 pmIt's been strange working on recording this songs album. It's very odd to be doing so without a fully working voice for one - I even wrote a song because of the gruff voice.
Also at the start of the process I had a clear plan for how it would be - simply instrumentation - mostly piano & guitar - a similar feel throughout of singer-songwriting vibe, all new songs etc. Then I found there were more good songs in my 20+ year old unrecorded songs file than I thought there were - I thought I'd reached the end of that. So 4 old songs got recorded - all of different styles, some demanding more instrumentation or beats. Then the UK filk con arrived and a couple of silly jazzy songs got written with that in mind. I also thought it would be nice to record a version of me singing a song of mine from Jodi Krangle's jazz songs album.
I am pleased that new songs, that I've had vaguely as chords or in my head, have been encouraged by the process to be completed.
So... now I've largely recorded 16 songs - 2 at least will go to the planned Chris Conway Dan Britton album, though I may do my own version of one of those. The rest are quite a variety - more so than my last album which was a bit chilled/melancholic in feel. I was going to leave off one of the silly jazzy songs but I'm thinking variety might be the feature of this album.
Albums have a way of knowing what they want to be. :-)
I'm now working through finishing and mixing each track, the main part of this is replacing croaky poorly guide vocals. I'm nearing the point where I want to hasten on and get it out of my life as other musics are calling for my attention.
