I'm not very good at birthdays. I usually gig on them, or waste a lot of energy kind of ignoring them and kind of not. This time I thought I would take charge of the day and throw culture at it. It was successful - culture is good for the soul and gives the mind distraction so as to not dwell on "things" (which gloomily tends to happen when I do nothing on the birthday) . Plus it felt good to impose my will on the birthday rather than letting it just happen to me. Treating myself is also something I need to do more often. To that end I ordered several more expensive CDs than usual that i have put off getting for YEARS! Time is short - I should enjoy them now while I can, and it didnlt really break the bank. :-)

Sat 5th
Birthday - 11 things.
1. Futuristic shuttlecraft-like Hub hotel with app control lights etc.
2. Nice Moroccan restaurant.
3. Boulez - cool 2 pieces. A short sextet. A solo violin + quadrophonic harmoniser/delay effects. Cool.
4. Stockhausen - Hymnen Region 3 for orchestra & electronics. AMAZING! Such sounds & mix! On Radio 3 Jan 1st. Magical!
5. Comic actor John Bird was sat beside us. He's a London Sinfonietta patron & modern classical fan.

8. 400+ people from all over the world wished me happy birthday on Facebook! smile emoticon Including a fave author. And so many lovely comments. Thank you all!
9. Walked 8 miles. (walking around - to & from station, etc) And did yoga.
10. Found upload of Perfume documentary on NHK.

Sun 6th - 6 things
1. Fun dash through National Portrait Gallery.
2. Ai Weiwei sculpture exhibition at Royal Academy. Interesting - audioguide needed for political background to really get them.
3. Walked about 7 miles...
4. Came home to cards & presents.
5. A fave author replied to my FBook comment.
6. Nice to be home and eat my own home cooking.
