WOW! One of the best song gigs ever at the Criterion! Packed listening crowd and I got to do all kinds of old and new songs. Sold 11CDs! A real boost.
Thanks to everyone who came to see/hear me!

My confidence has been slipping with my songs gigs - it's beena  while and I dont listen to much singer-songwriter music lately either - I've pushed myself in some recent ones, doing new songs I wasn't confident on with some slips etc. This time I wrote of big list of songs I knew really well and selected from those (doing just one relearned one - Write You Down) - wanted to cover all phases as 2015 is 20 years since my first songs album Sounds Like Rain.

I did one set of old songs and one of newer, telling how the songs came about and where I was at at the time. WHAT AN AUDIENCE - first set was not packed but the 2nd set more and more folks came in and listened SOOO much to everything I said and played. i could do ballads, and didnlt feel the need I sometiems do to do "entertainers" - funny songs - in any quantity than I felt like it.

Sweet moment in the break. A big, gruff fella asked me for a CD with Nobody Loves Me (Like I Do) on it. He said he hadn't been to anything "like this" before, saying "To be honest I just came from the football - this is a different world! You really have to listen don't you? And that song just said something to me"
Yup one of those charmed gigs and a great boost for my songs confidence. I have 2 other songs gigs this week which should really get me back into it.

Set 1 (Old) - Tomorrow Lives Again, Coming In To Land, Long Day's Waiting, California Dreamin, Nobody Loves Me (Like I Do), Storyteller, Write You Down, Life Magic & Love, Alien Jellyfish Song
Set 2 (Newer) - Science Fiction Eyes, Easier, Lifespell, Superheroes Never Die, Love Space Station, Wiccan Chicken flutes, Out Of The Blue, Three Headed Girl, Leaves - encore The Fish Song

I had to go straight from the fab solo songs concert at the Criterion to pick up Andy the sax payer to go to Loughbough to play at a 65th birthday party. No time for food so i was grateful of some at halftime. Not played a gig in someone's house for a long time - people are so close you have to be sociable and become a partygoer to some extent.

Curious party gig conversation..
CC - do you play?
Guest - no. But I collect instruments.
CC - cool, what do you have?
Guest - a French horn, a grand piano, a harmonium, a saxophone, a guitar, a bass, and 2 violins.
CC - and you don't play?
Guest - not really.
CC - what got you into collecting instruments?
Guest - my mother was a piano teacher...

Thus ended 3 gigs in 2 days - each ina  different genre...
Whoosh!
