So cool seeing one of my heroes Marcos Valle last night. There aren't many hero(in)es of mine still living I haven't seen. This was my first trip to Ronnie Scotts - not heard good things about it - mostly as in the week they devide the night into 2 houses, with support band and you see only a small show by who you want to see, Luckily on Sundays it runs like a normal concerts - 2 sets, no support act. Also less corporate dining audience....
Cool things included...
1. Great set - similar to Glastonbury set which I caught on iPlayer the day before - covered music from all eras celebrating 50year career.
2. Awesome band - so tight -quintet - trumpet/flugelhorn, bass, drums, vocal (his wife Patricia Alvi) & Marcos on voc, keys & gtr.
2.5. Brilliant trumpet player with fab reverb on it.
3. Met Marcos & gave him my Chocolate Bossa CD with the piece I dedicated to him. (Samba 66) Bless him, he said "I will listen to this in Brazil - I will listen very carefully!" Of course Ithamara Koorax, who guests on that album used to sing with Valle some years ago, so that gave me something to talk about.
4. He signed a CD
I took along - his latest, Estatica.

This is one of those things that i couldve easily talked myself out of a few months ago, foe all kinds of nerdy reasons. But since I suddenly got happy (see State Of The Christo post a while back), I'm kinder to myself and just go for it! :-) In fact I'm seeing another London gig in a week or so :-)
