Every month I and some chums have gathered to improvise electronic music in the huge lobby of Quad Studios, Leicester. We celebrated our 5th anniversary at Quadelectronic 61 in June with cake, quiche and candles and music.
There were 11 musicians and 1 live light show creator. As well as the usual rules - randomly chosen groups improvise for 7 minutes - I devised a piece to commemorate the occasion - a 5 minute long piece - all the players get only 5 notes/sounds each - each note/sound to last only 5 seconds - we had 2 goes at that. We plan to release an album of the best music made that night.

The music over the years has changed a little. There are fewer "soloists". QE music has kind of developed a style of its own. More of a collective sound. Often beatless. Interesting how the collective mood changes from month to month - from ambient months, space months, beaty months, noisy months, mellow months, free jazz months etc...

What started as making a place to play my theremin grew. Many great players have passed thru from all genres, albums released, bands formed, friendships made. Nicely uncompetitive, just for fun and exploration. An electronic playground. Easy to take for granted after so many years. But looking back, it's pretty groovy.
