London trip
Feb. 22nd, 2013 02:53 pmG and I had a delayed honeymoon trip to London. We went to see..
1. The Audience - a play at the Guilgud Theatre with Helen Mirren and Robert Hardy about The Queen meeting her various Prime Ministers over the years. I didn't like the script and didnlt buy any of it from the word go - the conversations were pretty fanciful and at times it felt like either a school play or a bad impressionist/impersonator show. Mirren tripped on her lines 5 times. Clunky obvious humour too. It was OK really - just felt like a bit of fluff for the tourists. I;ve not seen a bad review so maybe it was just me...
2. Kew Gardens - nice trip to see some David Nash sculptures and I enjoyed the buiuldings like the pagoda and the hot houses and the treetop walk.
3. Cocktail Sticks - a fun play about Alan Bennet, taken from his autobiography - this was at the National Theatre at the South Bank Very well done - streets ahead of the Mirren play..
Otherwise we caught dinner where we could and caught lots of tubes and trains, staying at a Premier Inn in Richmond.
Holidays and travelling are often a challenge for me but it was good for me to do it and see London, especially as I am playing there in April at the South bank.
One thing had changed since I was last on tubes was that whereas before eveyone used to be talking on their mobile phones, now everyone is on their phone screens or tablets - funny sitting opposite 6 people all on their screens.
