Tonight I wt to the Bollywood cinema to see the new Imtiaz Ali film Rockstar. Ioved his last 2 films Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal so was very keen to see this. All 2hr 40mins of it.
Ostensibly about a musician who wants to be a rock star like his hero Jim Morrison but realises that all great artists need pain in their lives and he has had a relatively trouble free time. After that the film is pretty much a romance. Breezy excellent first half as the romance gets going - 2nd half it does lose it's way where he acheives success but is unhappy. There is a rather cliched dramatic device which pulls the story in at the end which seemed a bit like they finally thought of a way to end it.
However Imtiaz Ali's trademark cinematography great, music awesome (AR Rahman) - acting OK - still not 100% sure about Ranbir Kapoor but I can see why he was chosen an he did OK, Nargis Fakhri did OK in her first film. I got a bit weepy at the end but I'm a softy and losing 2 chums in a week didn't help... It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster following this guy from nerdy college boy to rock star and disollusioned success and the big romance etc...

Overall a good film but unlike his last 2 films was not without flaws - but felt he had tried for something grander and slightly lost something on - perhaps if t the way - maybe if the 2nd half had had another edit... But I'm being picky. It was quite a trip and did give one something to think about.

Had meeting with Jim about our Memory Wire duo. Had lunch and caught up - then went thru a lot of live recordings of Memory Wire plus 1 guest - quite a few as we found...  I'll edit them down and see if we have an album sitting there at the end of it.
