Fri/Sat
G was away with choir over the weekend. Thought of being sociable but on the Friday I had a night in with Deep Space 9 and a Chinese takeaway. Saturday I spent recording - by the evening I thought I oughta DO something else - called Jim from Memory Wire and invited him over for a homeade tofu stir fry and watch Tarkovsky's Stalker which he hadnlt seen - I hadn't seen it for a while. Great to see it again - it always strikes you in a different way.
I made the mistake tho of trying to drink alcohol - which never suits me well - one half of weak lager followed by 2 shots of vodka. Next day i felt TERRIBLE - shaky and poisoned... what a wuss.
Sun night I had a solo songs slot at the Walrus Gumboot Charity Concert at Lock 22. Had anice chat with a couple who knew Vikki Clayton and were into similar ECM jazz and Breton music to me. I went on early and sang for 30mins - the only audience were the other musicians on the bill - Ild say 15 people - but I felt relaxed and connected somehow. Got such wonderful comments from folks and even more amazing contacts and messages on Facebook and emails afterwards. Very satisfying for what could've felt a bit of a quiet gig.
Monday
More recording - Thierry guillimot lived for a while in Leicester some 10 years ago and was back to do an album launch that Monty organised, I played on and mastered. It was at Monty's Club at a golf club in East Gostcote - bit off the beaten track but quite a crowd. I played a 2 song solo slot and then joined in with Thierry and others on tracks that i had played on the CD. Then it turned into a 7piece jam for much of the 2nd half. Been a while since I played Goodnight Irene and This Is My Land - never did like either song but it was fun enough.
