strange day
Mar. 12th, 2010 01:48 amI was gonna get away from the screen and recording and get out i the day. However video editor Sally came round and dropped off my edited In Concert DVD masters and stayed for a cuppa and a chat.
Then I got an intrigueing email from Nottingham Contemporary Gallery saying their other thereminist couldn't make a gig next week and suggested me. So I replied I could make it (heck of a busy week tho - St Pats week) and took a while to find a good video demos of what i do. The guy from the gallery rang me and on chatting thru the gig things kinda went down in coolness gigwise
1. the gig wasnlt at the cool Nott Contemp gallery -
2. it was in a Polish Club
3. It is a Humour & Food evening.
4. they wanted me to play while folks are dining.
Oh well on the bright side - 1) it is a gig 2) it is paid, 3) it is with the theremin and 4) it;s nice to have a contact with the gallery.
In evening I planned t go to the Stench VI electronic event - interesting electronic music but also so many chums to chat to and folks mentioning interesting performing possibilities, etc. Strangest of all was a a guy with lots of stirring machines spinnign containers of ballbearings with contact mics on them. etc. Was very interested in new venue - The Arts Organisation TAO - an organization that takes over derelict shops and makes art spaces out of them - it was mid refurbish but had a nice "factory" feel to it. Might plug something in there myself.
Got new album by prog metal band Aspera - "Ripples" - good stuff - a la Circus Maximus & pagans Mind. Frightening they are only 20 yrs old. http://www.myspace.com/asperaofficial

There was another event I dropped in on later The Secret Jazz Co. jazz night at The Cafe Bruxelles - weird for me coz 1) I used to play regularly there for some years a few years ago and havn't been back since. 2) they named the club after the first venue I had my first professional gig in 20 years ago. Started to feel old. Chatted to some chums there.
Havent been in town int he night for years - harked me back to my barhopping days - except I dont drink now - which feels weird being in those kind places but in a very different headspace. Kinda wish i could still drink (makes me feel poorly now) and kinda glad I don't.
So stuff happened and tho i got little done it did blow some cobwebs away, and I guess I showed my face around a few places. Made my brain a bit whizzy tho. probably talked too much again...Got new album by prog metal band Aspera - "Ripples" - good stuff - a la Circus Maximus & pagans Mind.
