Van Der Filk Con / Haiti Benefit
Feb. 10th, 2010 02:18 amGone are the days when I feel up to writing long con reports mentioning everyone I talked to over the weekend. I had a great time tho and many thanks to the committee for a smooth job. I tried to take things alittle easier - and failed having volunteered for 2 morning panels, and soem sound teching and filked past 1 at the Fri & Sat circles.
Seeing Vixy & Tony 3 years at least since we met at Consonance and FKO was great. When I met them they were only just throwing a set together - now - wow - a totally consumate professional set and Vixy's voice was totally awesome. They would grace any stage anywhere. And they were both carrying colds!
I got a real kick out of seeing the Cosmic Trifle band - seeing Zander on stage creating his magic with Valerie & Chris was very special - their voiced blend so well and their songwriting styles complement eachother perfectly.
As I hadn't socialised much since my lurgy I kept finding myself talking too much and getting a sore throat and a buzzy night's sleep as a result. Great to chat again with old chums tho.
Songs I sang over the weekend...
Andromeda Bound, UFO (Country Joe McDonald song), Future Beige, Zonky Ponky (my new one), Lifespell
Tim Walker & I had a fun recorder/low whistle "duel" doing ever more over the top soling swapping every few bars a la metal guitarists which was funny. Afterwards imitating a news report I saidTim Walker was found bludgeoned to death by an tin whistle in a Grantham Hotel" - for which he has the pricesless rejoiner "Well - it's how I would've wanted to go".
My auctioned In Concert cds and T-shirt collectively raised £59 for the filk fund!
On tyhe Sunday I had to leave early to go to play at a Haiti Benefit gig in leicester. Got home to find I had left my guitar & flute bag at the con. What a forgetful twonk I am!! - I was mighty tired tho. I played the benefit gig with my baby Taylor guitar (sang Help Me and The Hammer Song) - then drove the 1 hour back to the con - reclaimed my kit, sat in the circle for another hour to recover, and then headed home. I was tired then I can tell ya.
