A light few days as on a number of projects I;m waiting for stuff from other people. Took yesterday off pretty much, doing a little mixing and beaurocrasy - in the evening went out to dinner at new Chinese buffet with Neil the Bass.
CDBaby has chosen this time to have a helluva refit which has made it a bad time to try and load stuff up there as I;d planned...
Today Bridget was gonne come to record but cancelled as her voice still isn't right after the flu. So I added some bodhran to a track anyway and did some more mixing on her tracks. I also did new versions of Raising Kayn tv series theme tune and credits music.Really enjoying the Palle Mikkelborg album The Garden is a Woman I got on iTunes - his film & theatre music. Dreamy. Wanted it for ages but gave up trying to find the CD hence felt OK settling for the download.
Still new to this itunes world - I kept finding fab obscure albums by really hard to find artists - all there for me to have and hear NOW. Then why don;t I feel I have it when I do this? Lack of liner notes, yes but how often do i really read those? Plus I know I;m running out of CD storage space - yet why doesn;t it feel like really buying an album, downloading it instantly? Gratification to fast and easy? Perhaps I;m just old - or perhaps theres a thought that my laptop could go down and I'd lose the lot - I guess one can back-up... Theres a Matt Venuti & The Venusians world fusion album I;ve wanted a while - could get it on CDBaby for 15bucks plus postage to UK ...or.....get it NOW on the ipod for £7.99 .. but like..NOW. And a Tone Hulbaekmo Norwegian singer CD from the '80s.....and....
sigh...maybe I'll get used to it...
In evening I went to Borders book & CD store - counterwise to above - no stock...not just next to no CDs but of DVDs and low on books (eg just 1 William Gibson - guess which). Real life shopping aint what it was...
Side note at Borders - they used to stock some of my CDs there - I asked if they had sold or removed as I saw lack of other local artists who I knew stocked there. They used to be able to look me up n the cmputer - see how many receievd & sold.
Answer ? They had no way of knowing anymore - did not run the CD stocking database on their computer anymore as CDs now ordered in centrally. So they have no way of knowing what happened to them, how many they sold or anything. Not so much bothered about the money - just an oddly impersonal state of affairs.
