Gaddesby School
Mar. 10th, 2009 11:29 pmAn old chum asked me to play for her school and talk about music to 7-10yr olds etc as they have been playing my Sanctuary piano album at assembly for ages. Schools aren't my favourite places but I thought it would be good for a change and to do something out of my comfort zone - I also remember my cousin Miv giving a talk about her native Zimbabwe when I was little at my primary school and how no one ever forgot it. A friend of mine from then still talks about it.
I slowly introduced each instrument, piano, kalimba, guitar, low whistle, tin whistles, theremin and alternated it with some songs - silly ones mostly - piano improv, Deja Blues, Long Days Waiting, Alien Salad Abuction, Bobby Caseys, Rainbow Real, Nobody Loves Me (Like I Do), some things on the theremin, Alien Jellyfish Song.
Of course the theremin was the star of the show and I got quite a few kids up to have a go.
Then things broke up and they all hastily wrote thank you letters to me while I broke the kit down, - then it was autograph time - I'd taken some postcards. The teachers seemed very enthusiastic afterwards, and the kids were too in a shy kinda way. Overall - good for the soul I think.
I managed to do some recording/editing on the Bridget song, and the electrician came in the morning to sort out some lighting.
Still very tired after my crap day but felt a lot better generally - just need another good night sleep.
