International Jazz Awards nomination.
Aug. 12th, 2008 11:16 pmI had a weird thing happen - decided to get my blurb sharpenbed up for my Chocolate Bossa album and send soem more review copies out. I was going to send one to allaboutjazz.com - a very groovy jazz site - then I thought - maybe I sent them one already - I did a search on their site for possible review and found ina link that my Chocolate Bossa album got nominated in the International Jazz Awards for outstanding male vocal performance (Latin & Afro-Cuban section)
The awards happened in June in Beverley Hills apparently...I doubt I won - especially with Poncho Sanchez in the frame :-)
I was somewhat surpised because...
1. the more mainstream awards were all BIG artists like Tony Bennett, Herbie Hancock, Metheny et al.
2. the nominations were said to be based on Soundscan sales ( I assume downloads) - Until a couple of months ago I'd only burned about 10 copies. CDBaby had it awhile online I guess.
Anyway it made me register my ChocBossa tracks with PRS/MCPS quite sharpish...
