Govannen gig/Music in the Meadow
Aug. 10th, 2008 07:40 pmFriday night saw a Govannen gig at Quarn Country Hotel - 25th anniversary - went smoothly - started Irish but went rockn'roll in the end as that seemed to suit dancers.
Saturday saw a charity mini-festival - Music in the Meadow out at Ashby Folville Manor in the grounds of media fitness guru Rosemary Conley. Sadly twas it by rain for the 4th year running. We were Govannen-minus-Dan (Dan is in Edinburgh with Bob Cheevers. Was a bit weird fronting the trio of me ,Deli, & Neil and yet not doing my solo song show but doing Irish stuff I knew less well, especially on guitar. Despite rain about 350 people came under umbrellas and gazebos. I'm still not agreat fan of playing at festival stages outdoors (prefer music in rooms) but it went OK. - there was a great buffet which we stayed for. We sold 1 Celtic Fire CD.
In evening watched Double Indemnity (1944 Fred MacMurray/Barbara Stanwyck/Edward G Robinson) - excellent noir gripper and fun Billy Wilder Raymond Chandler script)
Sunday - quite tired after 4 gigs in 6 days. I lazed about and went to museum/gallery, stopping for lunch at the Belmont Hotel where I used to play the piano for 12 years some years ago.
