Dec. 19th, 2002 11:19 pmWhat a complete arsebiscuit of a gig.
It was a book signing in Coventry. I leftin good time but with the frappin xmas traffic at both ends when i got to Coventry I found it was hell on Earth - I had a map but still found no clue from the ring road where to get off - I asked for help once and found myself on the wrong side of town. When turning round a couple of kids on motor scooters swore at me, I waved, they then persued me scooting infront of my car and threatening whatever in colourful language - made it to the bookshop a half hour late and found to my horror i had forgotten my amplifier. (I've been a bit below par with this endless cold - that's my excuse) - I was prepared to give the author some CDs, apologise and drive home. He asked me what I did have that i could use. I said some whistles and a kalimba. He said anything was better than nothing.
So there I was walking round this select group singing songs and playing my whistles and flutes for an hour and a half. I certainly haven';t done that before and my thumb joints were a might painful with all the kalimba-ing.
I couldn't really take his money as he'd ordered jazz piano - I took £20 for petrol and he gave me a bottle of wine. Everyone was nice about it but I felt a complete fool.
Ho hum.
On top of this it looks like I wont be able to see
zencuppa as I can't get cover for either of my gigs tomorrow and the next day.
Earlier in the day I bought a mike stand from Dan at Sheehans, (I'd run over mine with my car a few weeks back - I guess my memory isn't good at the moment) gave him a copy of the Dramatics CD
- made some new keys for Ellie to ease her in cat sitting rota, went to the bank, and then thats where the entry came in with the driving and gig hell.
My lungs are not so good and I'm now exhausted BUT I'm home and now and at long last fed and Ms Koorax is smoothing over some of the rough edges of my day and my brain.
